Officials identify 'issue' that paused construction of Johnstown Inclined Plane Project

CamTran officials announced Monday that engineers have identified the "issue" that caused the Johnstown Inclined Plane project to be put on hold earlier this year.

Officials say, following an investigation, engineers with Conroy Engineering determined that there were errors made during the fabrication of the rims of the "sheave wheels."

The project was first delayed last year after city officials reported a delay in receiving certain parts, including the "sheave wheels," which the cables attach to and help pull the car up the tracks.

Then in January, CamTran announced a pause in construction after a "concerning issue" was discovered in November.

Project organizers say that due to the time it will take to re-fabricate the wheels and have them safely inspected for installation, the reopening of the Johnstown Inclined Plane will not happen in 2024.

The goal has been and remains to re-open the Incline to the public so it operates in a safe manner and fulfills its commitment to ensure longevity and durability of the Incline for many years to come.
